Welcome to the Land of Spike.

The official stomping ground of London-based illustrator Spike Gerrell.

Spike has been supplying illustrations to a host of clients since the late eighties. A grounding in quick turn-around editorial work, with ridiculously short deadlines and madly diverse briefs has ensured that Spike's work has stayed minty fresh.

His meandering path through literally thousands of commissions has allowed his cast of genetically challenged humanoids and menagerie of happily mutated animals to evolve naturally to suit an extremely broad client base.

The galleries on this site contain myriad examples of Spike's work. Almost all are from the relatively recent past. Amongst the images currently on show are...

• some cartoon strips (the guardian, nursing times, occupational health @ work)

• images from tam dalyell's westminster diary (new scientist political column, weekly 1992-2005)

• a few book jackets, including...
- a series of book jackets for 'Ally's World' by the very lovely Ms Karen McCombie.

- a series of book jackets for 'Stella Etc" also by Karen. Have a look at her fabby website www.karenmccombie.com

• some morris dancing policemen

• a mountaineer climbing a fridge

• a suspicious-looking wolf

• famous bath-time thinker archimedes

• some flying pigs

• and loads more

Spike lives in North London with partner Kaz, 3yr old Ethan and brand new baby daughter Stevie Jasmine.
